Post Back-out Plan Testing

Once the change has been backed out, testing will be required to see if the environment has been returned to the state that it was before the change. Depending on the nature of the change, business staff and technical staff may be required for testing.

The steps that are going to be executed for the post back-out plan testing have also got to be detailed.

Post Implementation Review (PIR)

A post implementation review is a review of the change to ensure that it achieved all the outcomes that it was expected to deliver, and if not, then learn from that and move on.

PIRs take time and this in turn is a cost to the organisation. For this reason, it is not necessary to review all changes, for example, simple changes that went according to plan.

PIRs should be reserved for emergency changes, failed changes, changes that took longer than expected and changes that had to invoke the back-out plan.

The PIRs should involve all the stakeholders of the change and all commentary documented and attached to the change.
